Students have a multilayered support base, including from their homegroup teacher, year level wellbeing coordinator or our college counsellor. Students benefit from our wellbeing initiatives, learning support, buddy classes, pastoral care program and house system throughout the year.

Buddy Classes

One of our innovative ways to enhance student learning and social development has been the Buddy Class program. The program offers students the opportunity to connect and socialise with their peers, which can significantly improve their wellbeing. A variety of activities are organised such as indoor and outdoor team building games, art activities and math games that foster learning while promoting fun and engagement.

The Buddy Class program is particularly effective in developing social and emotional skills. Older students model behaviours such as empathy, self-regulation, and cooperation, which younger students can emulate. This mutual interaction helps build a supportive college community where students feel more confident and accepted.

House System

St George College’s house system consists of 4 houses, each with their own spirit and traditions: Athens, Olympia, Pella and Sparta.

Our house system is a fantastic way for students to quickly connect, build friendships, and immerse themselves in the college community. It offers a fun, supportive environment where students can participate in friendly competitions, collaborate with classmates, and develop valuable teamwork skills. Being part of a house helps students feel at home and connected, making it the perfect way to get involved and make the most of their college experience. Each house has Year 4, 8 and 12 leaders who help plan annual charity events, run sporting and non-sporting programs, as well as assist in organising Sports Day.

Learning Support and Extension

Every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our Learning Support and Extension program provides tailored pathways that support and challenge students of all abilities, ensuring every learner is equipped to succeed academically, socially, and personally.
