St George College was deeply honoured to welcome a High-Ranking Military Delegation from Greece, as part of the 85th Anniversary Commemorations of the Battle of Crete, to our campus this week. We were privileged to host Lieutenant General Konstantinos Bouzos, Chief of Staff of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) and his wife, alongside distinguished guests from Greece and Australia for a formal commemorative assembly followed by morning tea.
Joining the Lieutenant General was First Lieutenant Eleni Theodorou, Head of the External Affairs Department, Directorate of Public Relations, HNDGS; Staff Officer Lamprini Kokkori, International Affairs Directorate, HNDGS; Colonel Kyriakos Kyriakakos, Defence Attache attached to the Embassy of Greece in Australia; Mr Emmanuel Mountakis, President of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand, accompanied by his wife; Mr Panteli Fridakis, President of the Cretan Association of South Australia; and Dr Alexandra Theodoropoulos, Greek Consul General of South Australia.
The guests enjoyed student performances by our College Choir, traditional Cretan dances by our Senior Dance Group, and a beautiful musical tribute honouring the enduring spirit of the Cretan people.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our honoured guests for sharing this significant event with us.
85th Anniversary Battle of Crete Memorial Service
St George College was honoured to participate in the 85th Anniversary Memorial Wreath Laying Ceremony commemorating the Battle of Crete at the National War Memorial in Adelaide on Tuesday, May 12. This meaningful event brought together members of the Greek Orthodox community, dignitaries, students, families, and the wider community to reflect on the extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and resilience shown during the Battle of Crete.
Our College Captains proudly represented the college in the wreath laying ceremony, while our College Choir beautifully led both the Australian and Greek National Anthems, paying tribute to the continuing bonds between Australia and Greece. As a college community, we were proud to stand in remembrance and honour the legacy of those who fought for freedom and peace. Their bravery and spirit continue to inspire future generations.
We sincerely thank all students, staff, and families who attended and helped make this commemoration so memorable.
