The Middle Years are a time of growth, discovery, and increasing independence. At St George College, students are supported to develop the confidence, resilience, and skills they need to navigate this important stage, preparing them for future success through a rich curriculum and a strong sense of belonging.
The Middle School Years from 5 to 8 are a crucial developmental phase where students begin to form a stronger sense of identity and social awareness. During this time, they shift from a focus on their immediate support network to exploring broader social circles – peers and mentors start influencing their perspectives. They seek belonging and validation not just at home but increasingly from their peer groups, as well as approval and recognition from their teachers. As they grow in confidence, they also begin to take more responsibility for their own learning, becoming more independent and self-directed in their educational journey.
At St George College we understand the complexities associated with this stage of development. We have structured our curriculum to offer students opportunities to develop the skills, values and attitudes which prepare them for Senior School.
We also provide our students with a supportive, nurturing and affirming environment where growth can occur, and significant learning can take place.
Students are encouraged to engage with a wide range of texts, materials, technologies and learning experiences in their study of core and specialist learning areas including English, Humanities and Arts (Drama, Music and Visual Art); Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; Digital Technology; Health and Physical Education; Entrepreneurship and Program Management; Greek and Serbian languages; plus, Food and Hospitality.
In addition to the standard curriculum, student learning is supported by the Learning Support and Extension program.
