The Junior Years at St George College are where confident learners begin to grow. Through a caring, child-centred approach, we build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and personal development while inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in every student.
These early years are critical to foundational learning. Junior students in Reception to Year 4 are nurtured into building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy.
A combination of structured lessons and play activities, allow students to take measured risks in the development of language formalities and the proper application of reading and writing. Our teaching approach balances age-appropriate pedagogies that encourage children’s natural curiosity and drive for independent learning.
As students progress, their study widens to all eight learning areas via a multifaceted, diverse learning program through the curriculum. These core and specialist subject areas include Mathematics; English; Science; Humanities and Social Science (HASS); Health and Physical Education; Arts (Drama, Music, Visual Art); Technology (Digital and Design; Greek and Serbian languages; and Religious Education.
Our Junior School educators design purposeful, child-centred experiences that reflect the needs of the children and embrace the strengths of our college and community. While we assist our students in meeting their personal goals and challenges, we promote a culture of collaboration that caters to a wide range of student needs, abilities, and interests.
In addition to the standard curriculum, student learning is supported by the Learning Support and Extension program.
Mid-Year Reception
St George College offers families two Reception intakes per year. Our Mid-Year Reception classes commence in Term 3 of each year.
